TIGR® matrix is the worlds first long-term resorbable mesh made from 100% synthetic multi-woven fibres. TIGR® will create a sling and support the implant just as an ADM would, but without being made from animal tissues. Breast reconstruction procedures have undergone many changes and improvements over the past 25 years. Whilst the DIEP (Deep inferior epigastric perforator) flap remains the "gold" standard and choice of the plastic surgeons, implant reconstruction remains the most wide spread and least invasive operation of choice for many breast surgeon and patients. The advent of using an Xeno-Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM) has been shown to improve the support and cover for implant reconstruction and prevent the need for using the latissimus dorsi flap for this function. However, using an animal structure for a temporary sling in the breast does have several disadvantages; not everyone would welcome having a de-natured animal tissue inside their body let alone a breast that recently was diagnosed with cancer. Also, our body can react to the use of animal tissue and produce an inflammatory response that is unpredictable.
