Tissue Expanders

Silimed Tissue Expanders

Eurosurgical Ltd exclusively distributes throughout Great Britain and Ireland the Silimed range of Tissue expanders and also the worlds first and only self expanding tissue expanders from Osmed.

Silimed is a world-leading manufacturer of silicone medical devices. The range includes round and anatomical, smooth or textured, gel or saline, filled breast implants. CE Mark 0197.

The tissue expander range includes anatomical breast shaped expander in full height and short height anatomical designs in both single and double chambered with integrated ports, or remotes ports.

Also available are a full range of round, rectangular, crescent, calf shape, ear, spherical, elipitical, ovoid, longitudinally curved and syndactyli designs.

Standard smooth expanders use a soft silicone shell with a soft re-enforced backing attached inside the expander.

All expanders are available with textured or smooth surface.

Either remote ports (two sizes, small and large are provided in each kit) or integrated magnet finder ports are available for all expanders. Sizes available from 1cc to 1000cc as stock items and custom tissue expanders also available on completion of a customer order form.

Product Description

Tissue expanders are used to create transplantable tissue by tissue expansion. Depending on indication tissue expanders with different shapes, volumes and surfaces are available. All expanders do have an inner reinforced base to increase stability and to support the directed expansion. The double chamber design allows differentiated expansion and is ideal for reconstruction after ablatio mammae, correction of for example hypolasia, Poland syndrome or Pectus Excavatum (See also "double chamber" data sheet)

Indications

Temporary expansion of tissue and skin, e.g. for reconstruction after ablatio mammae, after burns or traumatic tissue loss.

Temporary expansion of tissue and skin to correct combined breast and thorax deformaties, e.g. Poland syndrome or Pectus Excavatum.

Custom-made products

Expanders with specific measurements and characteristics can be produced upon request.

Tissue expanders are delivered individually packed and sterile.

Osmed Tissue Expanders
Self Inflating Tissue Expanders

PRODUCT SUMMARY

The Osmed tissue expander is a self-filling device consisting of an osmotic active hydrogel (vinylpyrrolidone and methylmethacrylate), a material also currently used in contact lenses. The material has been tested to be non-toxic without any systematic effects in several studies. It is an innovative device that allows expansion of the skin without the use of injections.

Once implanted, it absorbs body fluids, with leads to a gradual swelling of the device to a predetermined volume and size. The size of the initial expander is only about 10% of its final
volume. The swelling results in the increase in skin volume gain. Osmotic expanders are temporary implants, which remain in the body from 10 days (defect coverage) up to 6 months(breast reconstruction).

The current Osmed tissue expander is contained in a silicone shell with an exact number and size of holes precisely controlling the expansion rate by slowing the absorption of body fluids. The swelling is gradual and gives the wound time to heal. It has been implanted in more than 1.000 cases. The indications for use are breast reconstruction (primary and secondary), breast anomalies (tubular breast), defect coverage (scars, skin tumors, alopecia, radial forearm flap).

KEY BENEFITS
Different than conventional expanders, the osmotic expander is extremely small and easy to
use. The product can be implanted with a very small incision and does not require
subsequent injections for filling. This carries major benefits for the patient as well as the
surgeon. It saves time for the doctor by not having to manually inflate the implanted
expander, and it saves the patient the discomfort related to periodic large-volume expansion
versus a slow, gradual, but constant expansion process.
