» Matriderm new publication-February
2009
W Haslik Etol from the Medical University of Vienna
in Austria have produced a further paper on the Management of full
thickness skin defects in the hand and wrist region; first long
term experiences with dermal matrix and Matriderm. This is to be
published in JPRAS (Journal of Plastic & Reconstructive Aesthetic
Surgery) in 2009. The paper looks at 17 patients with full thickness
burn injuries or four radial forearm flap coverage defects and assesses
their take rate, complications and the VBSS score at 12 months.
The results show a 96% take rate in all one stage procedures. No
haematomas were reported or infections. Twelve month long term results
showed a Vancouver scar scale score of 1.7. The paper goes on to
state “there is no doubt that patients benefit from rapid
wound closure and therefore earlier physical exercise and also the
community can save money due to the shortened hospital stay of these
patients”. “Matriderm is an excellent option for the
treatment of skin defects as a one stage surgical procedure, especially
in very delicate regions such as the joints”.
